BEHIND THE BRAND

Hi,

I’m Katie.  I’m a 38-year-old newlywed and mom of two kitties, Asher and Sadie.

 

I started my professional career working on the floor at lululemon back in 2008.  I worked my way up to assistant store manager at my inaugural location and went on to open two of my own stores in the Michigan region.  That’s where my love & passion for product & people began!

 

I spent three years working in product development at HoMedics. I loved creating and designing, but something was still missing.

 

It was during that time that I got engaged to and married the love of my life, Jesse.

 

We are certainly not traditionalists, and wanted to plan a wedding that was totally “us.”  Since Jess and I love the outdoors, boating and spending time at our cottage in the UP of Michigan, that was the most logical location we could think of to say, "I Do.”

 

So, we got to work…

 

We crafted everything from wooden charcuterie boards and cedar stumps to use as side tables to carefully placed greenery and unique nick-nacks.  You see, my husband is a designer and metal smith by trade.  With his sharp hands and attention to detail and my gift of being able to add flare to just about anything, together we turned what was simply a boat dock with a covered canopy into a scene out of a Hallmark movie (and yes, I love Hallmark movies).  That was in August of 2019.  It was actually the first time we worked together on a project.  And it was because of this that Wood and Ash was born!

 

I always had a passion for people who start their own businesses out of their own interests.  And after our wedding, I realized this is what I was meant to do.

 

So here we are…

 

Coming up with a name for my business wasn’t actually that hard.  I named it after the other loves of my life, my cats!

 

When I’m not hustling, bustling and making home goods, you can find me at the Pure Barre studio, on a yoga mat, cooking a new recipe for the hubs, hanging with my twin sister, Kelly, or surfing somewhere off the shores of Lake Michigan.
